Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

Polyaspartic is a subset of polyuria. Polyaspartic systems have two components…the resin needs to be combined with a catalyst to facilitate curing and hardening. Polyaspartic coatings are versatile and can be alternatives to epoxy and polyurethane systems. One of the advantages of polyaspartic coatings is that it can be used as a complete floor system as well as a topcoat. In other words, polyaspartic systems can achieve in a single coat what traditional epoxy and polyurethanes would normally take two coats. As a result, polyaspartic coatings can significantly reduce application time, labor, and material costs.

Typical polyaspartic applications include medium to heavy foot traffic, such as airports, malls, shopping centers, hospitals etc.

Careful Attention to Surface Preparation

Similar to epoxies, polyaspartic coatings require careful attention to surface preparation. Improper preparation can result in various types of coating failure. Also, while polyaspartic coatings with 100% solids have low volatile organic compound(VOC) emission rates, most polyaspartic coatings are solvent based. These solvent based coatings can be dangerous to breathe, so skilled labor and appropriate respiratory equipment are required during application.
