Why Seal a Concrete Floor?
There are a number of benefits to sealing a concrete floor:
It improves the longevity of the concrete floor system. Corrosive materials, heavy duty traffic, and just general daily wear can destroy a concrete floor over time. It is cheaper to add a concrete sealer than replace or repair a concrete floor.
It improves safety. Slip and fall accidents are a primary contributor towards employee/customer/patient accidents, and are associated with increases in insurance rates. Choosing the appropriate concrete sealer to help prevent slip and fall accidents is a great investment.
It makes cleaning the floor much easier. An unsealed floor will absorb anything that lies on it but a sealed floor will not absorb dirt and grime. It takes less time, labor, and cleaning chemicals to clean a sealed floor.
Less track in dirt/grime. An unsealed floor creates concrete dust. This dust is then carried from a warehouse area into an office setting. Sealed floors do not have concrete dust issues.
Improved visibility/lower electrical costs. By choosing a light colored floor sealer, the reflectivity of the floor is greatly enhanced compared to an unsealed concrete floor. This means you can install less lights and thus lower electrical energy bills.
It simply looks better. Sealed floors are way more attractive than unsealed floors. They give visitors/customers the impression that the area is cleaner and that the operation cares about sanitation. It also help employee morale..as they feel management cares about their work environment.
It helps eliminate contamination issues. Many areas like clean rooms, computer centers, food processing areas, production areas, etc. cannot tolerate concrete dust contamination. A sealed floor will prevent dust contamination. In addition, an unsealed concrete floor can allow bacteria and mold to grow in and on the floor. A sealed floor will prevent this from occurring. Each of these issues and significantly effect downtime and cause product recalls which can be very costly.
